What to Know/ What to Bring

When flying internationally to Costa Rica, there are several important considerations and items to bring:

Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure from Costa Rica. Depending on your nationality, you may also need a visa to enter the country. Check with the nearest Costa Rican embassy or consulate to confirm.

You must have a return ticket or proof of onward travel when entering Costa Rica.

Carry some local currency, the Costa Rican Colón, for immediate expenses like transportation from the airport. Inform your bank that you will be traveling abroad to avoid any issues with your credit or debit cards.

Bring a power adapter if you are coming from a country that uses a different electrical plug standard. Costa Rica uses a 110V power supply with standard US two-pronged plugs.

Pack weather-appropriate clothing. The climate in Costa Rica varies from tropical on the coast to temperate in the interior.

Have emergency contact information on hand, including the contact information for your country's embassy or consulate in Costa Rica, as well as local emergency numbers.

If you take prescription medications, bring enough for your trip, along with the prescription itself. A travel health kit with over-the-counter medicines could also be useful.

If you plan to rent a car, you’ll need your driver's license and possibly an International Driving Permit.

Keep copies of important documents like your passport, credit cards, travel insurance, and any other important documents in a separate location in case of loss or theft.

It's a good idea to review these items and considerations before your trip, as requirements and conditions can change.
